The 28th November saw another successful launch of a student accommodation project by the Gauteng Partnership Fund (GPF). Ha Bo Rona Student Rez, is a modern student residence situated in the western region of Tshwane, in Pretoria Gardens. This development, located just 4km from the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) was delivered by a 100% black-owned developer, Mapchief Trading (Pty) Ltd.
Co-funded by the National Empowerment Fund (NEF), this development exemplifies GPF’s commitment to transforming lives and meeting the urgent need for high-quality student accommodation in Gauteng, South Africa’s economic hub.
With 77 fully furnished student-friendly units, and a total of 308 beds, this is a development worth celebrating as it provides students with quality housing that will allow them to focus on what matters most – their education.
Thabo Mongoato of Mapchief Trading (Pty) Ltd expressed his appreciation for the assistance that GPF provided in navigating the compliance and due diligence procedures that are inherent in projects of this nature. “We are appreciative of the GPF and the NEF’s willingness to provide support to our team, as this is our inaugural venture into the property development sector,” Mongoato stated at the launch event.
Lindiwe Kwele, the CEO of GPF, congratulated Mapchief Trading (Pty) Ltd and commended the NEF for its commitment to transformation. She further stated, “Let’s never lose sight of why we do this work—we exist to make a lasting social impact”. “The launch of Ha Bo Rona demonstrates the GPF’s dedication to creating sustainable human settlements that transform lives.” She added.
At the launch event, Tasneem Motara, the MEC of Human Settlements in Gauteng, stated, “Ha Bo Rona is not merely a place to stay; it is a community, a space for learning, growth, and connection.” Our commitment to advancing social transformation in Gauteng and addressing the housing needs of students is exemplified by this milestone.
The GPF has successfully launched three student accommodation projects in the past three months: Ha Bo Rona Student Rez in Pretoria, 57 on Bok in Doornfontein, and Residence Viera in Brixton. These cutting-edge facilities collectively offer more than 600 accommodations to enthusiastic students who are enrolled in a variety of institutions throughout Gauteng.
The GPF is proud of the Student Accommodation Fund’s apparent success in bridging the funding gap for service providers, thereby providing safe, comfortable, and completely equipped housing for students. Developers are encouraged to prioritise loan repayments to the GPF, ensuring the organisation’s financial sustainability and its continued support for transformative developments in Gauteng.
